Oda Nobunao (織田信直)

Nobunao ODA (1546 - October 23, 1574) was a busho (a military commander) who lived during the Sengoku period (warring states period) in Japan. His common name was Matarokuro. He belonged to the family of three magistrates of Kiyosu. He was a son of Nobuharu ODA. His wife was Odaidono, a daughter of Nobuhide ODA. The mother of his wife was Yotoku-in who was a menoto (wet nurse) of Nobunaga ODA. His wife was a half sister of Nobunaga ODA with different mother, and she was a half sister of Tsuneoki IKEDA with different father.

He had a residence in Otai-jo Castle, and he acted together with his father Nobuharu. He took part in a campaign to subdue the Nagashima Ikko Ikki (an uprising of Ikko sect followers in Nagashima [present Kuwana City in Mie Prefecture]) in July 1574. On October 23 of the same year, he died in the fierce battle. His age at death was 29.

Nobuuchi ODA, the eldest son participated in the Umazoroe (inspection of military horses) as a brother of a prestigious noble man in 1581. His second son Tadatatsu ODA was the last lord of the Otai-jo Castle and his descendants became the Owari clansman. His daughter became the wife of Makino Kunai Shoyu (junior assistant to the chief of the imperial household) and later became the wife of Narifusa ARAO.

His portrait is left in Ganno-ji Temple, a branch temple of Zenko-ji Temple, in Nagoya City.
